UNDERLYING WATERS OF UNDERDEVELOPED LANDSCAPES
This project is made by pouring water collected from different places around the world (e.g. rivers from Alaska, snow from Montreal, raining from Bogota, sea from Mexico and France, among others) on black & white prints of Mars pictures taken by the Robot Curiosity. Water opens and breaks the CMYK inks by randomly reconfiguring them on the back of the paper, generating different kinds of patterns, structures and hues which depend on multiple factors such as paper features, climate, drying timing, printer configuration, etc.
The existence of water and the possibility of life under the surface of Mars, motivate this journey to explore my own planet while exploring pictorial possibilities of images of a very distant and barren place.
The installation of the final pieces allows spectators to walk around them in order to see both sides of these alternative water-colour organic landscapes.
AGUAS SUBYACENTES DE PAISAJES SUBDESARROLLADOS
Intervenciones hechas con agua recolectada en distintos lugares del planeta (ríos de Alaska, nieve de Montreal, lluvia de Bogotá, o mar de Mexico y del Mediterráneo, por ejemplo), sobre impresiones de fotografías en blanco y negro del planeta Marte tomadas por el robot Curiosity de la NASA. EL agua abre y descompone las tintas, reconfigurándolas de manera aleatoria al respaldo de la impresión y generando nuevas estructuras orgánicas bajo la superficie. A través de la exploración de la imagen, de recorridos por diferentes paisajes terrestres y de las posibilidades metafóricas y físicas del agua como elemento vital de la creación,se establece una conexión con un mundo extraterrestre inaccesible, distante e inhóspito.
